Book Talks and Reviews

Here you will find a list of very useful websites where you and your child can go to get ideas of what books they can read.  Several of these websites have book talks, where you and your child can watch a brief summary of what the book is about; book talks really get children interested in reading.  (Think of previews of movies you see on TV - it's the same thing!)

The mission of this site is to inspire kids to read.  Through podcasting and web videos, the booktalks are geared to students in grades 3-8.  The videos on this site last approximately 3 minutes.

2. The Children's Book Review

This website publishes reviews and book lists of the best books for kids of all ages.  It also contains author/illustrator interviews.


3. Slime Kids

This website was created to provide students with a playful, easy-to-use interface through which they could learn about and access valuable online resources.  This website has some wonderful and educational resources including: book trailers, book reviews, links to author websites, kid-friendly search engines, reference sources, and even educational games.

4. Bookworm for Kids

This website's mission is to encourage children to love reading.  You will find book suggestions separated by topics such as: ages, themes, genre, subject, and season.  There are also read-alouds on the site.


5.  Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site



This site is a collection of reviews of great books for kids, including featured books and all reviewed children's books.
